Mel’s Expletives Get Media’s Attention
July 2, 2010
As I was checking out at the local supermarket, I glanced down at the rack of newspapers. It seems as though I cannot stop myself from reading the newspapers, watching the news on television, and, of course, checking out all the blogs and web sites on the Internet.
I am not one of these “staunch” conservatives who will only log on to solid conservative, predictably right of center, reportage and opinion. I know what they are going to say and I agree almost 100 percent with what they say.
However, I am not afraid to check out, for example, the Huffington Post. I know where they stand, but I can still admire a good editorial presentation even though I disagree with its expostulation.
Therefore, I was fascinated with the New York Daily News taking up the entire front page with the remarks made by Mel Gibson to his estranged “girlfriend.” It just so happens they are in a heated and vituperative battle over everything, especially the custody of their baby daughter.
Mel, it is no secret, drinks too much and at the age of 54 gets bombed out of his skull. We all remember back in 2006 when he was stopped by a California Highway Patrol officer and said, “Are you a Jew? . . . The Jews are responsible for all the wars in the world.”
If he were sober, he never would have said such a stupid thing. But, he wasn’t sober and that is why he was cited for DUI.
But, that was then, this is now and Mel Gibson was recorded during a private argument with his erstwhile femme fatale as he screamed at her, “You look like a f***ing pig in heat, and if you get raped by a pack of n****rs, it will be your fault.”
You see, dear reader, it has gotten so bad in this country, we can’t even quote the exact word a person uses. This holds true whether it’s the f word, the s word or the n word.
You see the politically correct storm trooper have been able to equate a racist expletive with the f word or the s word or for that matter all the words we hear on HBO in most of the tawdry movies they show day after day.
Have you ever watched the so-called comedians on HBO? They have a great gift for being able to use the f word as a verb, as a noun, as an adjective, and most of all, as an adverb. And each and every time the “performer” uses the f word, he or she gets laughter and guffaws and applause and it is no wonder they don’t have a contest to see who can be most imaginative in the ways to use the F-bomb.
But, I digress. The question is, or should be, “Why is it so terrible for Mel Gibson to use the awful language he used in a private conversation, but it is all right for the ’Reverend’ Jeremiah Wright to slander Jews, Italians, and for that matter the entire white race?”
The answer is (drum roll here) because Rev. Wright is black and Mel Gibson is white. And, as long as white people are afraid of black power, the worse the double standard will get.
Speaking of power, here is a line from William Shakespeare’s play, Julius Caesar, as Cato speaks of Caesar, “They say he has power, but who gives him that power? WE DO!”
